Moth Caterpillar

A caterpillar of the elephant hawk moth, Deilephila elpenor (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae).  It was feeding on a willowherb (Epilobium sp). [2021-01-20: It has just occured to me that these are snake-mimics.  See here for another example.]

Photos taken in the Wilderness, Whiteknights Park, Reading, UK, on 2014-08-28.
