Black Hand Fungus

Small spiny fruiting bodies of a Diatrypaceae fungus, possibly a Eutypella sp, growing on a birch twig (Betula sp).  The spines were only 1 - 2mm long:

Unfortunately I was unable to get any spores.

First photo taken in Whiteknights Park, Reading, UK, on 2013-03-29.
