One of a swarm of tiny black flies that were across crawling over thistles (Cirsium sp) at the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors.  Probably a Sepsis sp. (Diptera: Sepsidae).

Photo taken behind Hangingstone, near Guisborough, North Yorkshire, UK, on 2010-08-08.
